Stanmore College is offering an exciting Graduate Trainee Teacher Programme designed to help passionate subject specialists transition into teaching while gaining a recognised qualification.

This paid training programme offers the opportunity to begin your teaching career in post-16 education while working towards a recognised teaching qualification - either a Level 5 Diploma in Teaching or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Alongside your studies, you will gain valuable classroom experience within a supportive further education environment, developing the skills and confidence needed to become an effective and inspiring teacher.

Train to Teach Sports

We are currently seeking a Graduate Trainee Teacher in Sports. This is an excellent opportunity for a sports graduate or industry professional looking to take their first steps into teaching while continuing to develop their subject expertise.

You will gain experience supporting and delivering a range of Sports programmes, helping learners develop the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to progress into higher education, employment, apprenticeships, or further training. Throughout the programme, you will be supported by experienced colleagues and mentors as you develop into a confident and effective teacher.

 

Salary

Lecturer Salary Scale (Unqualified): £27,980 – £33,543 per annum

2-year fixed term trainee programme

Year 1 - first 6 weeks shadowing teachers, then up to 10 hours teaching per week
Year 2 - up to 17 hours teaching per week

Career Progression

On successful completion of the programme, you will be eligible to interview for a permanent teacher position at Stanmore College.

 

Who Should Apply?

You will need:

  • A degree (2:2 or above) in a relevant subject, or significant professional experience
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/ C or equivalent)
  • Strong communication and digital skills
  • A passion for teaching and supporting learners to succeed
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Availability to start in August 2026
     

What the Programme Includes

During the programme you will:

  • Complete teacher training qualification (PGCE or Diploma in Teaching)
  • Participate in teaching and learning CPD

  • Co-teach and gradually take responsibility for classes
  • Plan and deliver lessons
  • Assess and support student progress

You will begin with structured shadowing and micro-teaching, before moving into independent teaching with mentor support.
