Production Operative

Overview of the Role

We are seeking Production Operatives to support the manufacture of our specialist defence products. Duties may include weighing, filling and pressing squib cartridges, manufacturing and preparing chaff products, flare assembly, MTV pellet pressing, and other production processes across Chaff, Pyrotechnic Flare, MTV, Spectral, Naval and Phosphorus product lines.

This is a hands-on role requiring a strong focus on safety, quality and teamwork within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all process instructions, risk assessments and safety procedures.
  • Achieve daily production targets accurately and efficiently.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety requirements, including the use of full PPE and RPE where required.
  • Carry out quality checks and maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Accurately record production data using templates and mobile devices.
  • Report near misses, accidents and incidents promptly.
  • Participate in shift briefings and safety meetings.
  • Handle pyrotechnic materials safely and in accordance with compliance requirements.
  • Complete all required induction and training modules and adhere to the Company Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate effectively in English across all work areas.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work across various production processes as required.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Ability to wear full PPE and RPE for production activities.
  • Basic understanding of safety documentation, including:
    • Process Instructions
    • Risk Assessments
    • COSHH
    • Manual Handling procedures
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Physically capable of standing for extended periods and carrying out repetitive tasks.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, including Drugs and Alcohol testing requirements.
  • Experience following Process Instructions and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Ability to successfully pass BPSS screening, including DBS clearance.
  • Basic IT skills, including the use of mobile devices and production systems.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience of quality control standards and inspection techniques.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Previous experience handling chemicals or hazardous materials.

Working Pattern

This role operates on a 9-day fortnight:

  • Week 1: Monday to Thursday and Friday
  • Week 2: Monday to Thursday

·         Early Shift: 6:30am to 3:15pm

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a salary between £23,779.60 and £27,015.04, depending on existing length of service within the business.
