Operational Safety Advisor

Overview of the role

The role of Operational Safety Advisor is to promote a positive HSE culture at Chemring Countermeasures, ensuring that all employees and visitors to our site are aware of and comply with all HSE policies and practices. The Operational Safety Advisor will work closely with the Operational teams to ensure we are always operating in a safe manner. They will do this by engaging and coaching our Operational teams to better understand the hazards and controls present in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Support operational excellence, by identifying hazards and assessing risks. Identify opportunities to reduce the risks to our employees.
• Support the Safety Manager and Manufacturing Managers in maintaining suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all processes
• To utilise the knowledge and experience of CCM employees to identify risk reduction measures.
• Work closely with Supervisors to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss reports to identify causation. Recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. 
• Generate and present HSE related reports and key performance indicators
• Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies and procedures.
• Possess a thorough understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, especially CoSHH, DSEAR, PUWER and Fire Safety, and be able to apply this knowledge with agility and pragmatism to dynamic problem-solving.
• Support the HSE Audit Plan by participating in internal and external audits
• Develop and deliver HSE training programs 
• Support the Safety Manager and the HSE Director in the setting and measuring of HSE Objectives and Targets for CCM UK.
• Manage stakeholder engagement, including, Chemring Group, the HSE and the Environment Agency
• Collaborate with other departments to promote a positive culture.
• Such other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time as directed by the Safety Manager and HSE Director

Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

• NEBOSH certificate (Level 3) and a minimum of 3 year’s relevant experience in a high hazard process environment.
• Experience of HSE audits
• Undertake accident and incident Investigations
• Experience of implementation of HSE legislation
• Experience in emergency planning and managing emergency arrangements
• Experience of supporting HSE management systems certified to OHSAS 45001 and ISO 14001
• IT Skills (Microsoft Office)

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

• Familiarity with explosives manufacture
• Explosive awareness training

This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30.
